Dividing 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers
When we divide a big number, we can break it into chunks (groups) to make it easier. ¡Como repartir galletas en grupos iguales, Majito! 🍪

🔢 The parts of a division
In 76 ÷ 3 = 25 r 1:
76 is the dividend — the number being divided
3 is the divisor — we divide BY this number
25 is the quotient — the answer
r 1 is the remainder — what is left over
💡 We can also write a remainder as a fraction! If the remainder is 1 and the divisor is 3, we write 25⅓ (25 and 1/3).
🎯 Estimate first by rounding! For 76 ÷ 3, round to 75 ÷ 3 = 25. This tells us our answer is near 25. ¡Muy útil, Majito! 🐱
🧩 Method 1: The Chunking Method — 76 ÷ 3

We split the dividend into place-value chunks (tens first, then ones)

Step What we do Result
1 Divide the tens: How many groups of 30 (10×3) are in 76? 2 groups of 30 = 60
2 Subtract: 76 − 60 = 16 ones left 16 left
3 Divide the ones: How many groups of 3 in 16? → 5 (5×3=15), remainder 1 5 groups of 3, r 1
4 Add the groups: 20 + 5 = 25, with remainder 1 25 r 1 ✓
🐱 The chunking method works by finding big chunks first (tens), then dealing with the leftover ones. ¡Como repartir grupos de 10 primero, Majito!
✏️ ¡Inténtalo, Majito! — 99 ÷ 4
What is the first chunk? How many groups of 40 (10×4) are in 99?
✅ ¡Así se hace, Majo! 😸 2 groups of 40 = 80. Then 99 − 80 = 19 left. 19 ÷ 4 = 4 groups of 4 (=16), remainder 3. So 99 ÷ 4 = 24 r 3! 🐾
✍️ Method 2: Short Division (Formal Method) — 99 ÷ 4

This is the neat, compact way to write division. We work left to right, digit by digit.

How it looks:
2 4 r 3
4 ) 9 ¹ 9
Step by step:
① Divide 9 ÷ 4 = 2 remainder 1
② Write 2 above. Carry the 1 to the next digit
③ Now we have ¹9 = 19
④ Divide 19 ÷ 4 = 4 remainder 3
⑤ Write 4 above. Remainder = r 3
99 ÷ 4 = 24 r 3 ✅ (or 24¾)
💡 The carry (little number) moves the remainder to the next digit, making it part of the next division. ¡Es como pasar lo que sobra al siguiente grupo, Majito! 🐱
✏️ ¡Practiquemos! — 94 ÷ 7
Using short division: 9 ÷ 7 = 1 remainder 2. The ²4 = 24. Now 24 ÷ 7 = ?
✅ ¡Exacto, Majito! 😸 24 ÷ 7 = 3 r 3. So the full answer is 94 ÷ 7 = 13 r 3 (or 13 3/7)! 🐾
📋 Method 3: Expanded Written Method — 99 ÷ 4

This is the long version of short division — it shows every step clearly. ¡Muy útil para no confundirse! 🐱

Expanded method:
2 4 r 3
4) 9  9

8  0(4 × 20)

1  9
1  6(4 × 4)

3← remainder
What it means:
① How many 4s in 9? → 2 (so 20 from 99 tens chunk)
② 4 × 20 = 80. Subtract: 99 − 80 = 19
③ How many 4s in 19? → 4
④ 4 × 4 = 16. Subtract: 19 − 16 = 3
⑤ Remainder = 3. Answer: 24 r 3
Both methods give the same answer → 99 ÷ 4 = 24 r 3 ✓
🔑 Estimate first! For 99 ÷ 4, round to 100 ÷ 4 = 25. Our answer (24) is very close — that confirms we're right! 🎯
✏️ ¡Check it, Majito! — 87 ÷ 6
Estimate first: round to 90 ÷ 6 = 15. Which is the correct answer for 87 ÷ 6?
✅ ¡Perfecto, Majito! 🐱 6 × 14 = 84. 87 − 84 = 3. So 87 ÷ 6 = 14 r 3 ✓. The estimate (15) was very close! 🌟
⭐ Key Rules to Remember
1️⃣ Always estimate first! Round the dividend to find an approximate answer before you divide.
2️⃣ Chunking: Divide the tens first → subtract → divide the ones → add up the groups.
3️⃣ Short division: Work left to right, write the quotient above, carry the remainder to the next digit.
4️⃣ Check your answer! Multiply the quotient × divisor and add the remainder. You should get the dividend back.
✅ Quick Check: 99 ÷ 4 = 24 r 3
4 × 24 = 96  +  3 (remainder) = 99 ✓
Or as a mixed number: 24¾ (24 and 3/4)
🏆 ¡Último desafío! — 83 ÷ 4
Use any method you like! What is 83 ÷ 4?
🏆😸 ¡PERFECTA, Majito! 4 × 20 = 80. 83 − 80 = 3. 3 ÷ 4 = 0 r 3. So 83 ÷ 4 = 20 r 3 ✓. Check: 4×20 + 3 = 83 ✓ ¡Eres una superestrella, Majo! 🐾🌟
